Fruit Waste: A Difficult Problem To Solve In The Fruit Land Of Tien Giang
Tien Giang is one of the localities with the largest fruit growing area in the country, with more than 84 thousand hectares as of 2023, annually producing over 1.8 million tons of various fruits. Among them, there are some specialty fruits such as Hoa Loc sand mango, Co Co grapefruit, Cai Lay durian, Tan Phuoc pineapple, Cho Gao dragon fruit, etc.
Along with the growth of agricultural products, in Tien Giang, many factories and fruit processing facilities are operating at full capacity, generating a large amount of waste that needs to be treated.
Currently, waste by-products from fruit processing account for approximately 40% of mangoes and 50% of durians. It is estimated that fruit processing activities, including peels and seeds, generate up to 500 tons of waste by-products daily.
However, there is still no solution to deal with the number of fruit peels that have accumulated for many years, preventing the problem of widespread dumping of fruit waste (durian peels, mango peels, mango seeds) causing environmental pollution.
International Technology Solves Local Problems
Applying smart technology to solve the problem of fruit waste in Tien Giang, Mekonglink connects with R.E.Global, providing a smart, reusable organic waste treatment solution for the agricultural sector.
We treat food waste with a completely natural microbial fermentation model. After being put into the machine, the waste will be processed, decomposed with many impacts from temperature, water, and oxygen, and become organic fertilizer within 22 to 24 hours. In particular, the waste treatment machine is equipped with an odor removal device, minimizing environmental impact.
The organic waste treatment machine with microbial fermentation technology will be a comprehensive solution to help:
- Reduce collection and transportation costs by treating waste at the source.
- Waste can be used as organic fertilizer and feed for fish farms.
- Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and contributing to the realization of a green circular economy.
Continuing And Developing The Fruit Waste Recycling Model In Tien Giang
To successfully develop and apply the organic waste recycling model, we are looking for the support of research institutes, environmental protection agencies, and fruit processing factories and facilities in Tien Giang.
Let’s look forward to our next steps in Tien Giang!
By creating connections and bringing technological solutions to solve the problems of Tien Giang people, Mekonglink has implemented the ESG Living Lab model, starting with the Vietnam – Korea Innovation Cooperation Workshop. This is an opportunity for Proof-of-Concept (PoC) platforms to develop technology and business models by cooperating with local companies. The program brings 4 breakthrough technologies, helping to improve the quality of life, and supporting economic development in Tien Giang.
